don't let the curtain catch you, cause you've been here before
the chair is an island darling, you can't touch the floor
and oh my love remind me, what was it that i said?
i can't help but pull the earth around me, to make my bed.

Personality:

"Luna was once again demonstrating her usual knack of speaking of uncomfortable truths; he has never meet anyone quite like her."

Luna Lovegood is a witch whose reputation precedes her, albeit not in a way that is particularly positive or kind to her. She is quickly established as something of an outcast at Hogwarts within her canon, the subject of ridicule and bullying among her peers. Simply because she is odd, even for wizarding standards. The Lovegoods are known for their peculiarity, Luna's father being the editor of The Quibbler, a satirical/sensationalist/alternative tabloid to the Daily Prophet. It is this peculiarity than Luna has found herself targeted for: she is strange, she is different.

On a first glance, Luna is a very docile and dreamy-looking young witch. Even her demeanour and speech-patterns mirror her physical and internal strangeness and most aren't sure what to make of her at first other than the knee-jerk: she's weird. She's unnerving, with a keen knack for making others uncomfortable. She encompasses one of her house's more negative traits: a bluntness that can make people reel back from her and an overly-honest manner of speaking that can cause embarrassment or discomfort. Luna isn't afraid to speak her mind in times when others would stay silent. She is jarring to the 'stiff-upper-lip' sentiments of the British wizarding world and that in itself is something of a faux pas which can isolate her from others. But her honesty is also a comforting and noble quality - brave in its own right and something others come to admire her for.

She reflects many of her house's positive traits too: she is both intelligent and creative and is unusually very perceptive. She offers interesting and poignant insights that, despite their frankness, make for valuable contribution. She is open-minded, willing to consider strange beliefs and believes them with such sincerity. She is a gifted witch in terms of magic ability despite her age. She is capable and competent and learns with efficiency, working hard at things that interest her.

She has a very calm and serene nature that is very difficult, if almost impossible to break her out of - eternally cheery and soothing. While she may be the subject of ridicule due to her weirdness – she remains unfazed by it, acting as if she isn't hurt by it. In part, Luna doesn't care about what people think of her - she dances to the beat of her own drum and she is happier for it. But it is only with her honesty that she reveals her real attitudes towards her bullying: she is lonely - and it's an honesty that's brutal in showing insight to being the outcast. She likened the Dumbledore's Army to 'like having friends', and is candid about the names she is called behind her back - an awareness that seems shocking and saddening at once. While she is frank about it, her loneliness may be something that bothers her more than she lets on.

The exception to her seemingly 'unbreakable' demeanour, the only occasion she may falter, is if someone insults her friends or father. She is fiercely loyal to those she cares about and will defend them when she seems a slight acted upon them. She becomes cooler, sharper and a little unkind when dealing with the offender; people may speak of her how they like, but she won't have people speak of her closest people badly. She is extremely loyal to her friends and will do all she can for them; having so few of them means she treasures them dearly.

Having gone through the grieving process herself with the death of her mother at a young age, Luna is very good at comforting others when they’re upset or afraid. She comforted Harry over Sirius's death and even Ollivander spoke of Luna being a 'great comfort' to him during their time spent locked up in the dungeons of Malfoy Manor for several months. Usually she doesn’t even need the words to do it – but her presence seems to be enough to soothe others - her calm demeanour radiates into her actions: she is warm, compassionate, kind and gentle. But she is good at offering words of comfort when she feels they are needed and she is sincere in those words.

She also handles extremely difficult situations well; it seems that nothing can really get her worked up and she can keep a calm head in even the very worst of situations. She isn't one easily ruled by her fear and will work hard to keep focused.
She seems to give of a sense of being wise beyond her years, demonstrating both emotional and mental maturity that others struggle with.

Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping:

- General Magic: As a young witch, Luna has already demonstrated talent and proficiency in magic. Her knowledge of magic is still somewhat limited, considering she is technically only a sixth year at Hogwarts (and missing half of the school year) - with exceptions to Defensive Magic she has been taught by Harry (via Dumbledore's Army) and Charm magic she has developed on her own. Luna is also a talented duellist, having battled dark witches and wizards successfully, despite her young age. WARP: Magic usage will exhaust Luna, depending on the frequency or difficulty of the spell. There is also a chance that using magic may backfire, causing a small explosion as if she'd been hit with a Expulso Curse.

- Non-Verbal Magic: Luna has begun to learn and use non-verbal magic, which is extremely difficult for someone her age. WARP: Similar to 'general magic', usage will exhaust Luna. There is also a chance that using non-verbal magic may backfire, causing a small explosion as if she'd been hit with a Expulso Curse.

- Healing Magic: As a witch, Luna is capable of some minor healing magic that she's so far learned in school or of her own studies. WARP: Healing magic will backfire onto Luna, causing her pain that is equal to the injury she is trying to heal.

- Apparition: Due to her age and current circumstances in canon, Luna has not learned how to Apparate. She may be taught how to Apparate by others from her world in the future. WARP: Should Luna learn how to Apparate, she will only be able to travel within Deerington, at short distances. Repeated usage will result in exhaustion. There is also the threat of Splinching due to inexperience.

- Rune Reading: Luna is able to read and understand magic runes. Her knowledge is capable but limited, as she is still of school age.

- Perception skills: Luna is unusually perceptive. She often able to see things that aren't there, or aren't obvious. For example, she was able to recognise Harry under the use of Polyjuice potion just by the expression on his face.

- Creativity: Luna is a very creative individual. She is able to make items both magically and by non-magic means.

Inventory:
- Wand
- Lion Hat - the eyes/brow seem to move as Luna's does; when tapped with her wand, it lets out an incredibly realistic lion's roar.
- Spectrespecs.
- Current outfit: a blue long-sleeved shirt; purple jeans; socks & underwear; black boots; decorated with flowery patterns; one pair of radish earrings and her anti-Nargle charm necklace.
- A Thestral - capable of flight for short periods of time, unable to fly out of Deerington.

backtagging Always. I prefer to finish/drop threads within three months, however. But I'd rather finish them over dropping them!
threadhopping Ask!
fourthwalling She is already aware she's a book-character in some worlds. She's still trying to adjust to this news. I'd prefer not to have her told her future, however. Anything leading up to her canon point is fair, however.

age 17.
height 5'2"
build Slim, maybe a little waifish.
languages English, Irish, a grasp of Latin for spell work.

affection Please. she is so lonely
physical contact Luna is fine with all physical contact with people she's familiar with but she does enjoy her personal space.
romance Y! Although only from within her age group. That being said, Luna has crushed on people older than her before, but it has very much remained that, a harmless crush. But otherwise, she'd very much keep to her own age-group. I also like to build CR when it comes to actual shipping, but I'm open to crushes/unrequited/pining. She isn't great at flirting but give it a try.
fighting Y! With discussion. She is physically weak but ready to open a can of magical whoop-ass.
injuries or death Discussion required!
timeline 1998. Ooh, boy. Get ready for a lack of pop-culture references.

character triggers: Luna does suffer some PTSD following her treatment at Malfoy Manor. This ordinarily doesn't effect her, but can be triggered in the face of extreme anger or rage in others and being the subject of that rage.

OPT-OUT

• CONTENT WARNINGS: Luna personal history comes with warnings of parental death and a history of bullying in the form of name calling, social isolation/ostracising and property theft. More recent warnings include abduction and imprisonment and implied physical assault and implied torture.

While not confirmed other than some facial injuries in the film (despite being held captive for three months) before being released, I personally headcanon that Luna was tortured at Malfoy Manor. This would have been in the form of magical torture via the Cruciatus Curse, likely for information on the Golden Trio whilst on their horcrux hunt or as punishment for her father's public support for Harry.

Not keen to interact? Eh, it happens. There's no hard feelings. Leave a comment if you do not wish to interact with Luna, comments are screened.
