Bloodstone flowers sounds like an excellent idea, I can even conjure flowers with magic. [ There's a very good charm she knows that she can use. ] Rituals are what we make of them, I made mine up. Why not do the same?
We offer her flowers, and sing to her as a way of asking for her help. Blessing a place would be a good idea, since she did that to people's home last year. Perhaps we could do it at the Sanctuary.
I don't know much about songs, other than the ones Peter's shown me. Do you know songs that ask for help from someone?
[at luna's question, sansa stops frowning so hard.]
Oh––there is the Mother's Hymn. I was singing it Lady Ammako the other day, but Lady Cynthia is a mother too. It's from my world; it asks the Mother, one of the Seven, for peace and protection.
[she sighs.]
For everything that seems to be lacking, this month. I could teach it to you if you like.
Oh, that sounds perfect—! I think Cynthia would very much resonate with such a song. [ What an excellent choice, Luna approves! ] I would very much like to learn that.
... What are the Seven—? Or who, rather—? [ If one of them is the Mother, then it's more of a who than a what. ]
[sansa smiles ruefully, a little sheepish. alayne stone had been, by and large, too cool for sept.]
It's the Faith of the Seven. I explained it a little for my tart in the Bake Off finals. They are all meant to be one god, in seven forms; the Mother, the Father, the Warrior, the Maiden, the Smith, the Crone, and the Stranger. They represent different kinds of people, I suppose, except the Stranger is also meant to be death. He's not in any of the hymns. You're meant to pray to each of them for different things, there are songs and stories to explain it.
[she laughs a little, nervously.]
I'm sure the Seven-Pointed Star is in the Archives. It's the book all the septas and septons read. There are a lot of stories that are meant to be lessons on how to behave. I always liked the songs best, and the pictures in the sept. The Mother's Hymn is very easy, and I could write down the words for you.
[ This is all fascinating to her. She's done a little research in her own time on other religions, mostly the ones of her friends. A little about Diarmuid's God as he was a monk, and Clarisse since her father is the god Ares. But this all makes sense, although she does have one question: ]
Why isn't the Stranger in any hymns? I would think you would still sing to him. If I had to sing to the god of death, I would sing he takes me peacefully, and quickly. Slow deaths aren't something I'm fond of. [ She speaks from experience: she's known two deaths. One was quick enough she didn't realise it happened, but her first—? She lingered for a short time in agony before she finally died. ]
I should have to have a look, it sounds very interesting! [ As if Luna needs another reason to go to Archives. ] I would appreciate that, and I would like to practice it for the ritual if you have time.
