When naturally occurring, Prophecies have little to no warning as will come on suddenly, out of nowhere. However whether naturally occurring or induced via blood ritual, physical manifestation appears the same — appearing much like how Seers have Prophecies within the Harry Potter Universe, albeit with some bonus spooky body horror.
Luna would go stiff as a board and fall from wherever she stands, she will exhibit seizure-like symptoms for a short period, her eyes clouding over with white. Prophecies will be spoken in vague or cryptic descriptions, that have varying degrees of difficulty in terms of understanding. She speaks in a voice not her own, but a cacophonous chorus. She will be completely unresponsive during this time.
The whole ordeal would be over in a matter of moments and she'll slowly come around, having thought she'd fallen asleep.
CONTROL
Prophecies would be very uncommon in occurrence, and incredibly random. ICly, they won't be something she'll be able to really control, nor will she be to able willingly to focus on what the prophecy will be about. Luna won't remember her prophecies. She will fall into a trance-like state while she speaks the prophecy, and unless she has someone with her — the prophecy would be otherwise lost.
Naturally occurring Prophecies happen during times of 'Natural Bleeding', or if Luna's Paleblood effect of a particular month mean an increased occurrence of Prophecies. In the future, when Luna works out what causes her Prophecies, she will induce one by spilling blood in a ritual — with one blood ritual per Prophecy.
USE IN GAME
Have a player plot coming up? Want to give your character a head's up on something happening in their life in Trench, or someone they know? Or perhaps give them knowledge about their canon futures? Maybe create an accidental self-fulfilling prophecy for them? I'm here for shenanigans. Let's talk.
Essentially, how this could go about is with OOC plotting for details on what you want your character to find out, it could then be implemented ICly simply by their character being around Luna and it 'happening randomly'. Threads can be played out or handwaved.
In the future, when Luna learns how to induce a Prophecy, it's possible for her to try and offer these to other characters since she'll be able to have them in a more controlled manner and organise to have someone around to record them. That way she can later contact people to tell them to Prophecies she's had.
Simply fill out the form with details and then we can plot something out!
As the year falls, tension runs deep; fuels bitterness and discord. The Dark Huntress seeks vengeance against the blood of the rabbit god. She sings to the dark and cold ones, calls for violence, to splinter bonds old and new. Beware her song, or face the curse of the hunt.
WITNESS: Peter Graham.
CONTEXT: December 2021 Event. In the tale: The Huntress and the Hare, a bitter rivalry is born between the Patron Dorothea and a Darkblood Huntress. When the Huntress died, having never caught Dorothea, her vengeful spirit comes each winter — calling to Darkbloods and Coldbloods to hunt the favoured blood types of Dorothea: Warmbloods and Vilebloods, despite friendships and bonds between them.
The Black Eyed Thing makes his move upon the waters of the Waking World this day. He and his misled children will strike against the God of the Unknown. The Self-Made God claims to seek his Ruined River, but he guards his true intent. She stands in his way and he will harm her greatly with his trespass. Appease her for his wrong-doing, or else all be lost in flood and storm and beasts.
WITNESS: Illarion Albireo.
CONTEXT: In July 2022, The Emperor led an expedition far out onto the Pthumerian Ocean, into Mariana's Domain. His private plan is that wants Mariana out of the way because she keeps blocking him from interacting with the soul of the planet itself. He pressures his CR to enact ritualistic murder of some NPC pirates, which seriously pisses off / harms Mariana. Absolute chaos ensues, with the ocean literally kicking off, plus some Sleeper-powers in regards to life/death/souls getting messed up, and doesn't stop until a group of Sleepers go to try and appease Mariana mid-month.
EXAMPLE ONE Character Name: Jin Guangyao Who is the Prophecy about?: It's about them! How might the character be referred to in a ~vague way?: His birth name, Meng Yao; "Jin Guangshan's bastard", "the son of a prostitute,"; "Lianfang-zun," meaning 'lord of subtle fragrance'; his sect is often associated with white peonies; plus the tower his sect is based out of is translated loosely either as "golden carp tower" or "koi tower," depending on who is doing the translation. Details of Prophecy: Jin Guangyao wishes to know more about the Patrons, specifically Dorothea, as her month is approaching. He plans on trying some frowned-upon tom-foolery in an attempt to find out more about her. However, Dorothea is not a Patron who wishes to be known, and she curses him with bad luck for trying to overstep. There is a reason why she doesn't want people knowing about her, as she believes it would serve as a disadvantage people might use against her. As time goes on, Jin Guangyao finds himself undergoing more and more unfortunate happenings, growing increasingly in danger. The only way he'll be able to stop the bad luck is to offer blood to Dorothea, and apologize profusely, agreeing to take in a stray kitten for the Patron. Thread this out?: N. If not threading out, brief summary for handwaving purposes: Jin Guangyao bumps into Luna at the Archives, and they have a brief chat about how difficult it is to find books there. Prophecy ensues. After making sure Luna is alright, he quickly leaves, quite spooked about the whole thing.
LUNA'S PROPHECY:The bastard of white peonies seeks out the secretive rabbit god, to see and to know her. Beware this fool's errand, lord of subtle fragrance. The rabbit god is quick and clever. Destruction and chaos await you, unless you seek absolution for this broken boundary. Blood and honoured words must be given.
EXAMPLE TWO Character Name: Sansa Stark Who is the Prophecy about?: Jon Snow. How might the character be referred to in a ~vague way?: The Bastard of Winterfell, Lord Snow, Lord Crow. References perhaps to Ghost, his white direwolf. Any references to Sansa are the Red Wolf, the Pale Raven (Trench), Winterfell's Daughter, a Queen of Winter. Details of Prophecy: Weeks after Stannis Baratheon departed for Winterfell, Lord Commander Jon Snow receives a taunting letter purportedly from Ramsay Bolton, addressed to 'Bastard,' which claims that Stannis has been defeated and Mance Rayder captured. It demands fealty from Jon to House Bolton if the Night's Watch is to survive and gives a detailed account of Ramsay's actions. Jon views it in disgust, as it repeatedly sullies the honor of what was once the ancient seat of House Stark. He responds to Ramsay's letter by announcing his intention to ride south against the Boltons. He does not order the Night's Watch to fight with him, but asks both wildlings and black brothers alike to join him of their own volition. Jon's decision, which is in violation of his oaths, though his goal is also to protect the Watch from Ramsay Bolton, causes great discontent within the Watch's upper leadership. In the confusion resulting from Wun Wun's killing of Ser Patrek of King's Mountain, Jon is stabbed repeatedly by some of his black brothers, who attack in tears while muttering "for the Watch". LUNA'S PROPHECY:Red Wolf, you are far from the lone white wolf at the edge of the world, with letter in hand. He must protect the crows, and turns his sights upon your father's seat. He seeks to ride, with crow and wild ones alike. They do not understand their lord, see his actions as an oathbreaker. Brother turns upon Brother, with their blades and tears. Lord Snow will know them. For the watch, for the watch, for the watch.
Character Name: Taro Watanabe Who is the Prophecy about?: His role in the fight against the gods. How might the character be referred to in a ~vague way?: "The raccoon dog" (because tanuki), potato/yam (Taro literally is a potato-like vegetable), 'river crossing' (one of the readings of Watanabe though there's a bajillion) - if none of those work just hit me up. Details of Prophecy: Death isn't the end for Taro. He's going to end up traveling across the country with his best friend (Toshiko who is a half-kitsune) and a medium channeling him. The two of them will gather allies and perform a ritual out in the Great Basin Desert (so a land of sage and juniper) to summon the gods and either fight them or try to talk them down from their power-mad tendencies. Thread this out?: Y let the Awkward commence!
A truth uncovered. A life undone by the Tengu's hand. But not a journey's completion, there is a path beyond the river crossing's end. Another journey awaits, guided by the she-fox's hand. To seek friends and venture out to the sagebrush valleys and pinyon-juniper forests, and bend the gods with will or steel.
In terms of time-wise, Luna is not really going to be out and about until very late November, early-December (due to IC and OOC reasons) but I can throw up a starter if you have a catch-all or toplevel somewhere! In terms of where Taro is likely to find Luna when she is more up to going out, she is most commonly found around Gaze, usually at the School of Mutter, or in the Archaic Archives. She can also be found in Willful Machine, as she runs a magic/occult shop there called Ritual Gig.
Totally fine, I understand! Life Happens. And I'm about to be swallowed by Pokemon anyway... He does have a toplevel here - Taro can be found mostly anywhere, but popping in at the Archives isn't impossible even though he's not a Nerd like some of my characters.
Oh, thanks for that! have fun with ur pokemons tho I think them coming across one another at the Archives would be good, Luna's definitely heading there looking for books on the whole Sleeper Cocoon stuff, so I could work out something there for them.
